HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR -
This program prepares students for entry level employment in a hospital nursing unit or skilled nursing facility as a health unit coordinator. The health unit coordinator initiates records for new patients, records information from nursing records, uses medical terminology, abbreviations/symbols, transcribes physician orders, performs clerical functions for admissions, discharges /transfers patients, maintain unit supplies, communicate with other departments by telephone, intercom, pagers, text message, tube system, and computer. Must have keyboarding and computer skills.

Learn the fundamentals of managing Electronic Health Records (EHR) on the computer. Ninety percent of our medical records are now being kept electronically, with a full conversion expected by the year 2014. This course will introduce students to the field of Electronic Health Records by learning the steps to EHR Implementation, EHR frame work, content, visit management, problem/medication/allergy management, examination/ graphic/chart notes, treatment plans/orders, patient communication, reports, registry, and continuing care of the patient. Students must have intermediate computer skills, be able to type 25 wpm and have an email account. Students must attend orientation to register. Prerequisite: Medical Front Office.

Medical Billing Specialists work in a variety of medical settings and companies that specialize in billing and coding for the industry. Topics covered: health insurance, medical documentation, Health Insurance Claim Form, Medicare, private insurance/ managed care systems, Disability Income Ins./Disability Benefits Programs, diagnostic/procedural coding, Medicaid/other state programs, TRICARE/CHAMPVA, EDI, receiving payments and insurance problem solving, office/insurance collections, Workers’ Comp, hospital billing, job search and professional advancement. ONLINE MEDICAL INSURANCE CODING

Coding professionals are in high demand. Coding drives the billing process (and gathers all the statistics) and more codes are now needed to comply with greater accuracy than ever before. The technical skill and knowledge creates great job opportunities and income. You will study medical terminology, coding theory and protocols, coding practicum, coding medical charts, ICD-9 and CPT codebooks. Students must attend orientation to register. You can become skilled to be a Pharmacy Technician. Gain the knowledge needed to work under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. Learn pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols; dosage calculations; identification of drugs, drug dosages, routes of administration and storage requirements; techniques related to manufacturing, packaging and labeling prescriptions. This instructional and clinical lab program meets the California State Board of Pharmacy requirement in order to earn a pharmacy technician registration. BASIC SPANISH FOR THE MEDICAL WORKPLACE- Will not be offered at this time
This introductory class is designed for people who are considering medical careers or who currently work in the medical field. This course is designed so that medical professionals, medical students, and anyone with a general interest in Spanish in the medical workplace can learn the medical Spanish terminology and Spanish speaking patient interaction skills necessary to establish or improve their ability to diagnose, take patient medical histories, and better relate to their patients and their families in a culturally sensitive manner.

In this class you will become proficient in medical keyboarding by keying medical terminology, medical abbreviations, symbols, punctuation, grammar, format layout and more. Learn to format medical documents including consultation reports, pathology reports, history and physical examination reports, operative reports and SOAP notes. Students must attend orientation to register. Prerequisite: Must type 25 wpm. After registering during orientation, you will be provided with the instructor’s email — contact the instructor.
